Chinese government silent over "Great Rug of China."

The Chinese government is refusing to confirm what appears to be a giant rug next to the city of Beijing. The existence of the rug was exposed by a series of NASA satellite photographs, although its purpose remains unclear.

However, persistent rumours have suggested that the giant rug - now the second Chinese man-made object visible from space - is being used to hide unfavourable items during the Beijing Olympics. According to one source, the rug is concealing from view huge amounts of pollution, dissidents, Tibetans and numerous other "controversial" items for the duration of the Games. "They've just swept up anything unsightly and hidden it under there." said the source. Despite the newly released satellite photos, the Chinese government has thus far remined silent on the subject.
